Connections Academy recognizes local student
Brandt Stevens of Mentor was recently named one of Ohio Connections Academy’s Star Students of the Month.
Brandt Stevens of Mentor was recently named one of Ohio Connections Academy’s Star Students of the Month for March in recognition of his academic achievements and leadership in and outside the classroom.
Brandt, a third-grader at the statewide online public charter school, was nominated by his teacher Ms. Morgan, in recognition of his hard work and determination to succeed in the virtual classroom.
As a Star Student, Brandt will be presented a certificate recognizing his achievement and be profiled in Ohio Connections Academy’s student newsletter and on the school’s social media platforms. Each month during the school year OCA will recognize students in grades K through 12 who are excelling in the virtual classroom.
“The faculty, staff and members of the board at Ohio Connections Academy are proud to recognize students like Brandt and the commitment they demonstrate to our school and their community,” said OCA Superintendent Marie Hanna. “Each of our Star Students is a leader in the classroom and demonstrates an extraordinary commitment to learning – they truly deserve this recognition.”
Brandt came to Ohio Connections Academy at the beginning of the academic year to be in a stable learning environment during the COVID-19 pandemic. According to his mother, Molly, her son likes that he can take breaks between lessons and get outside more often than when he attended a traditional school.
“Brandt has become more independent in some of his lessons and has more awareness around time management,” Molly said. “OCA has given Brandt flexibility during the day to work at his own pace. He has learned to be quite efficient with his time and has become more responsible for his work.”
Ohio Connections Academy is hosting online information sessions for families interested in learning more about virtual education.
