Church plans Easter scavenger hunt

Area wineries put focus on ice wines

- Janet Podolak Local Flavors

An Easter Egg Scavenger Hunt, planned by Mentor United Methodist Church, stands to get the entire family involved in a drive around Mentor in search of clues.

Those clues, which can be found at mentorumc.org/current/ easter-egg-hunt, are large, colorful egg images, each containing a letter.

Collect the letters and unscramble them to discover the word that is spelled. Most of the clues are in and around the Old Mentor neighborhood.

Those following the clues will discover one of them at the home of the church’s pastor, another in the park where the annual Easter Egg hunt usually takes place.

Once the 12 letters are unscrambled those doing the hunt must come to the church, 8600 Mentor Ave., between 10 a.m. and noon April 3 to claim a prize. (Enter the church from the south on Southwood Drive to drive through the different activities.)

Folks will be able to have a photo taken with the Easter Bunny, take a story walk and pick up candy-filled Easter eggs to take home for a personal egg hunt on Easter morning. Other activities will help donate to Heifer International toward the purchase of 50 flocks of chickens.

Questions can be directed to Tammy Palermo at tpalermo@ mentorumc.org or 440-2553496, ext. 110.

Sample regions ice wines

Another way to get out and about and enjoy the spring sunshine is the Grand River Valley Ice Wine Trail, open most Saturdays and Sundays throughout April. The fee is $6 at each of six wineries, where samples of their ice wine will be poured and offered along with an appetizer made to pair with ice wine.

Wineries include Ferrante, which will offer a Peach Ricotta Ice Wine Pursette appetizer; Debonne Vineyards; Grand River Cellars; Laurello Vineyards; and Cask 307. All are just a few minutes drive from one another.

Call to confirm, but most will be open from noon until 5 p.m. Sunday through Friday and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturdays.
