Luke Frazier is looking for a new college home after recently putting his name in the NCAA transfer portal.

The Lake Catholic graduate spent his freshman season at the University of Dayton, but his first season of Division I college basketball had a setback.

Last winter, Frazier returned home to Lake County while recovering from an emergency appendectomy in December. The 6-foot-5 freshman was hoping to get into the rotation for the Flyers, but that surgery and recovery made it difficult, especially for a freshman.

“I just think he’s looking for the right fit,” said Matt Moran, Frazier’s coach while at Lake Catholic.

Following his surgery, Frazier told The News-Herald: “I’m disappointed because I was just in the best shape of my life, and now I have to restart that and work my way up the ladder again.”

As a senior at Lake two seasons ago, Frazier earned All-Ohio honors while averaging 22.2 points, 6.7 rebounds, 3.9 assists, 2.2 blocks and 2.1 steals per game. He is the career record-holder at the school in assists (307) and steals (177) and is second on the scoring list with 1,665 career points.

Moran said soon after Frazier put his name in the transfer portal, a number of coaches began contacting him about his former player. Schools interested include all the Mid-American Conference schools in Ohio, Youngstown State, Wright State and others.

The Flyers were 1410 this past season and got an invite to the NIT, where it lost in the first round to eventual champion Memphis. Frazier, a swing player, appeared in two games. He originally committed to Dayton in the summer of 2019.
