North, Kenston staples top area All-Ohio picks

Eleven News-Herald coverage area girls basketball players earned All-Ohio honors March 30 when the Ohio Prep Sports Writers Associatio­n announced the Division I and II All-Ohio teams.

In Division I, North’s Abby Carter and Brush’s Kayla White were named second and third team, respective­ly, while in Division II, Kenston’s Catara DeJarnette and Perry’s Madyson Hacking were named were named second and third team respective­ly.

A number of others earned special mention or honorable mention nods.

Carter averaged 16.9 points, 8.8 rebounds and 2.5 steals per game this year for the Rangers. She has signed a letter of intent to play basketball at Akron.

White averaged 13.2 points, 3.7 assists and 2.6 steals per game for the WRC champion Arcs. She has signed to play college basketball at Bethune-Cookman.

Rounding out the area contingent in D-I are North senior Avril Drew and Madison junior Riley Montagner, both honorable mention selections.

In the D-II listings, DeJarnette — a junior — got second-team recognitio­n after averaging 19.8 points, 5.3 rebounds, 3.9 steals and 3.6 assists per game.

Perry’s Hacking, The News-Herald’s Kaayla Chones Award winner as its player of the year, averaged 16.7 points, 6.8 rebounds, 3.7 steals and 3.3 assist per game in getting third-team recognitio­n.

Beaumont’s Lydia Gattozzi and West Geauga’s Alexa Hocevar are special mention All-Ohioans in Division II, while Perry’s Elle Infalvi, Gilmour’s Lauryn Stover and Hawken’s Makayla White are all honorable mention picks.
