Painesville hires assistant city manager
Derek Feuerstein is the new assistant city manager of Painesville.
City Manager Doug Lewis announced the appointment at the April 5 City Council meeting, according to a news release.
The role of assistant city manager opened after Lewis was appointed to his current role as city manager in December. He served as Painesville’s assistant city manager for 12 years.
“We had a very talented pool of candidates for the assistant city manager position, but Derek’s prior experience, skills and team-oriented approach made him the ideal candidate to fill the position,” Lewis said in the release. “I know he will be an asset to the City of Painesville and I look forward to working with him to continue to improve the community.”
Feuerstein comes from Elyria, where he served as safety/service director over the past year. Previous to Elyria, Feuerstein served as the city manager of Rittman, and the deputy safety/ service director in Lorain.
He is a graduate of the University of Akron with a master’s degree in political science.
“I am excited for the opportunity to join the staff at the City of Painesville,” said Feuerstein in the release. “I know many individuals who have worked closely with the city and have spoken very highly of their experience. When I saw the opportunity to join the team, I knew I had to apply.
“I am appreciative of the opportunity and look forward to serving the citizens of Painesville.”
