Park District plans Earth Day Drive-Through event

-

Geauga Park District’s Natural Resource Management staff invites the public to celebrate Earth Day safely and locally through its free, outdoor Earth Day Drive-Through slated for April 22, at The West Woods.

Participants need only register per vehicle, not per person, in advance at www. geaugaparkdistrict.org under Programs & Events or by calling 440-2869516. Time slots are each 15 minutes long and currently available from 12:15 through 1:45 p.m., according to a news release.

Giveaways will include free native prairie plants and wildflowers such as common and swamp milkweed, gray-headed and purple coneflower, cup plant and rosinweed.

“These were chosen to encourage residents to plant these native additions to their home gardens, which will provide native pollinators with preferred host plants and nectar sources,” said Park Biologist Paul Pira in the release.

Also, Geauga Park District staff will distribute native tree and shrub seedlings including white pine, red oak and buttonbush; and representatives from the Native Plant Society of Northeast Ohio will have garden plants to give away.

Also, there will be giveaway bags that will include informational literature and child-friendly materials enough for each vehicle to make one pine cone bird feeder using 100% peanut and nut-free Wowbutter).

Organizers say it’s likely there will be enough supply for the distribution of a few plants/trees per vehicle.

The West Woods is located at 9465 Kinsman Road in Russell Township. Those with questions can call 440-286-9516.
