13th Annual Cops Ride, ceremony are Aug. 1

Event honors fallen officers

A 13th Annual Cops Ride and Ceremony is 10:30 a.m. Aug. 1 at Greater Cleveland Peace Officers Memorial.

The “13th Annual Cops Ride” Ceremony will be held at 10:30 a.m., Aug. 1, at the Greater Cleveland Peace Officers Memorial at West 3rd Street and Lakeside Avenue.

Monica Robins will be the emcee and will open the ceremony with the singing of the National Anthem.

John ‘KIKS’ Kikol, president of the Cops Ride, stated that they will be honoring the following four Ohio fallen officers from 2020: Corporal Adam S. McMillan of the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office, Detective James M. Skernivitz of the Cleveland Division of Police, Officer Kaia LaFay Grant of the Springdale Police Department, and Officer Anthony H. Dia of the Toledo Police Department.

According to the Officer Down Memorial Page, there were 364 fallen officers during 2020, including 234 from coronaviru­s, compared with 150 fallen officers for the prior year.

There will be a procession­al ride to South East Harley Davidson, 23105 Aurora Road in Bedford Heights, beginning at 10:30 a.m. and arriving at 11:45 for food.

Cost of the ride is $20 per person and registrati­ons are available at several locations, including Cleveland Rock N Roll City Harley Davidson, 4985 W 150th St. in Cleveland, and Western Reserve Harley Davidson, 8567 Tyler Blvd. in Mentor.

Registrati­ons will be available the morning of the ride. Staging begins at 8:30 a.m on Lakeside Avenue in front of the Police Memorial.

The net proceeds from the Cops Ride will be divided between the Greater Cleveland Peace Officers Memorial, Ohio C.O.P.S. and Scholarshi­p for TRIC Students at tending the police academy, according to the release.
