The Willowick Public Library will be hosting a fivepart, online author series beginning Sept. 22.

“Take a Step Back in Time” will showcase local history, authors and historians, according to a news release.

“Cleveland A to Z,” presented by Dr. John Grabowski of the Western Reserve Historical Society, will be the first featured program in the series, scheduled for 6:30 p.m., Sept. 22, via Zoom. Attendees will learn about the people, places and events that have defined the city of Cleveland, including John D. Rockefeller, Garrett Morgan, Whiskey Island, Harvard Club, the Great Cleveland Bridge War and the Moondog Coronation Ball.

Grabowski, a native Clevelander, began his career at the Western Reserve Historical Society in 1969. Since 1999, he has held a joint position with the Historical Society, where he currently serves as historian/vice president for research and publications and at Case Western Reserve University, where he is an associate professor of applied history.

The online series continues with “Lost Department Stores of Cleveland” at 6:30 p.m., Sept. 29, with author and local historian Michael DeAloia. He will evoke the golden age of Cleveland’s prestige and elegance with names like Higbee’s, Halle’s, May Company, Taylor Son & Company, Sterling Linder and Bailey’s.

That will be followed by “Victory on Two Fronts” at 6:30 p.m., Oct. 6, by author Scott H. Longert, who will relate the story of the Cleveland Indians and Major League Baseball during the World War II years and through the 1948 World Series.

Then, Grabowski returns to talk about “Who Names the Neighborhoods?” at 6:30 p.m., Nov. 3. He will discuss Cleveland’s neighborhoods that have an intriguing series of names from Kamm’s Corners to Dutch Hill to Little Italy.

Finally, “Hidden History of Lake County” with author Jennifer Boresz Engelking will take place at 6:30 p.m., Nov. 10.

Engelking will uncover the history behind some of Lake County’s most wellknown people and landmarks and reveals stories lost to time.
