A Painesville man accused in a Perry Township kidnapping incident is scheduled to stand trial in November, Lake County Common Pleas Court records show.

Jonathan Camarillo-Hernandez, 19, is facing two counts of first-degree felony kidnapping, two counts of second-degree felony felonious assault, two counts of third-degree felony abduction and misdemeanor domestic violence. The charges stem from an Aug. 18 incident involving a female juvenile who had a romantic relationship and children with Camarillo-Hernandez.

A jury trial is scheduled to begin Nov. 9 in front of Lake County Common Pleas Court Judge Eugene A. Lucci. Camarillo-Hernandez was arraigned Oct. 1 and his bond was reset at $500,000 with a 10 percent option. Conditions of the bond included no contact with the victim or the victim’s family. Camarillo-Hernandez remains in jail in lieu of bond, Lake County Jail records show.

According to a news release from the Lake County Sheriff’s Office, deputies on Aug. 18 responded to a reported disturbance of a man dragging a woman in a Chrysler 300 sedan before fleeing. Deputies arrived and found a four-door vehicle in a ditch in a disabled position and blood in the roadway.

As deputies traveled the area, a Chrysler 300 sedan was seen traveling on River Road toward the scene. The vehicle allegedly quickly turned off the roadway and was soon found unoccupied in a residential driveway.

Due to the circumstances surrounding the initial report, the nearby Perry Village Police K-9 unit was requested along with the Lake County Public Safety Unmanned Aircraft System drone team to help locate the man and woman who were believed to have fled into a wooded area.

As efforts to locate them were underway, the victim allegedly fled the wooded area to seek help from deputies on scene.

The Sheriff’s Office stated that they learned during the course of the investigation that CamarilloHernandez allegedly observed the victim traveling in the four-door sedan on River Road in Perry Township. He allegedly proceeded to pass her moving vehicle and block her, forcing the vehicle to a stop. He then allegedly entered the passenger side of her vehicle where he’s accused of assaulting her.

After he exited her vehicle, the victim attempted to flee only to be allegedly road blocked a second time. Camarillo-Hernandez is accused of then jumping on the hood of her vehicle and smashing the windshield, causing serious injury to her as she was in the driver seat.

He’s then accused of dragging her from her car into the Chrysler before removing her vehicle from the roadway and causing it to become disabled in the ditch. He then fled the scene with the victim.

Efforts Aug. 18 to locate the suspect with the K-9 and drone team were unsuccessful. Camarillo-Hernandez was arrested Aug. 19 by the Lake County Sheriff’s Office and the U.S. Marshals Northern Ohio Violent Fugitive Task Force.
