Tony Fisher Award watch list

The Tony Fisher Award goes to The News-Herald player of the year in football. It is named after the former Ohio Mr. Football recipient, a graduate of Euclid, who went on to star at Notre Dame and play in the NFL. The Fisher Award watch list can and will change on a weekly basis. This is simply an early sample of players to watch based on their performanc­es last season. The Fisher Award will be presented on Monday, Nov. 22, at a special edition of the Varsity Chalk Talk show at Hooley House in Mentor, with finalist for the Fisher Award and for the Bob Ritley Award (coach of the year) on hand.

This week’s watch list, in alphabetic­al order, is:

Ryan Baer, North, Sr.: Graded 90 percent blocking with six pancake/knockdown blocks in the Rangers’ 16-7loss to Mayfield. For the season, the 6-foot-8, 330-pound Pitt commit has graded 90 percent with 81 pancake/knockdown blocks. Derell Bedingfiel­d, Benedictin­e, Sr.: Benedictin­e’s game against Erie Cathedral Prep was cancelled last week. For the season, the Toledo commit has 55 tackles, two sacks and has scored three touchdowns. Rick Coleman Jr., Harvey, Sr.: Ran for 11 yards and also threw for 301 yards and four touchdowns in the Red Raiders’ 28-26loss to Berkshire. For the season, he has run for 584 yards and 10 touchdowns and thrown for 772 yards and nine scores. JP Germano, Kenston, Sr.: Ran for 46 yards and caught five passes for 48yards in the Bombers’ 3-0 win over South. For the season, he has run for 626 yards and five touchdowns, caught 19 passes for 219 yards and two touchdowns and thrown for 92 yards and two touchdowns.

Alex Henry, Chardon, Jr.: Ran for 65 yards and threw for 102 yards in the Hilltopper­s’ 48-0 win over Madison. For the season, he has thrown for 463 yards and four touchdowns and run for 554 yards and 11 scores.

Ty Howard, VASJ, Sr.: Ran for 204 yards in the Vikings’ 46-28win over Youngstown Ursuline. For the season, he has run for 458 yards and 10 touchdowns and also leads the team with 86 tackles. Andy Kavcic, Gilmour, So.: Caught a touchdown pass in the Lancers’ 16-7loss to Brush. For the season, he has run for 458 yards and five touchdowns, thrown for 603 yards and eight touchdowns, caught 15passes for 207 yards and four touchdowns, and made 25 tackles on defense with three TFLs and an intercepti­on. Terrence Robinson II, Hawken: Sustained a season-ending injury in the Hawks’ game with Berkshire. He finished the season throwing for 974 yards and 13 touchdowns and rushing for 546 yards and seven scores. Defensivel­y, he had 31 tackles, one PBU and a forced fumble.

Tanelle Rose, Brush, So.: Ran for 150 yards in the Arcs’ 16-7 win over Gilmour. For the season, he has run for 1,046 yards and 12 touchdowns.

Mason Rus, Kirtland, Sr.:

Carried 16times for 163 yards and two touchdowns in the Hornets’ 63-28 win over Lakeside. For the season, He has run for 1,038 yards and 11 touchdowns and on defense has 61 tackles and 12 TFLs.

Gage Sullivan, Kirtland, Sr.: Caught four passes for 96 yards and two touchdowns, and also had an intercepti­on return for a touchdown in the Hornets’ 63-28 win over Lakeside. For the season, he has caught 25 passes for 492 yards and 10 touchdowns, run for 97 yards and two scores and has 24 tackles, six PBUs and two intercepti­ons on defense.

Danny Stewart, West Geauga, Sr.: Threw for 125 yards and three touchdowns in the Wolverines’ 29-14 win over Geneva. For the season he has thrown for 1,146 yards and 14 touchdowns. CeejayYarb­oro, Benedictin­e, Sr.: Benedictin­e’s game with Erie Cathedral Prep was cancelled last week. For the season, he has thrown for 1,123 yards and 14 touchdowns with two intercepti­ons.
