Glenn D. McKinney, 87, a longtime Mentor resident, died May 1, 2022 at his home with his family by his side. He was born July 30, 1934 in New Castle, PA.

After graduating from Mt. Jackson High School in 1952, Glenn proudly served in the United States Marine Corps. During his time with the Marines Glenn achieved the rank of Sgt. and served during the Korean War. In 1953 he married the love of his life Catherine, and together they moved to Mentor in 1958.

Glenn worked for IBM for 35 years. He joined the Mentor United Methodist Church in 1970 and served as the Chairman of Commission on Education. He also was a Sunday School Teacher,

a member of the Annual Conference, a Disciple of Bible Study and an Usher along with many other volunteer positions throughout the years. Glenn was a member of the Mentor Building and Zoning Appeals Board, a life member of the Marine Corps League, and American Legion Post 352.

Glenn loved traveling with his wife and family. He visited 47 states, The Holy Land, Sweden and the British Isles. A loving husband, father, and friend to many, Glenn will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

Survivors include his wife, Catherine “Kay” McKinney; and his children, Debra (Mary) McKinney, Kathy (Ken) Finnemore, Sheryl (Tony) Prelesnik, Sandra (Rick) Heinz, and Daniel McKinney. He is also survived by 11 grandchild­ren; 8 great grandchild­ren; and many other loving family members and friends.

He was preceded in death by his son, James McKinney; parents, James and Mary McKinney; and his siblings, Jeannie, Wade and Paul.

The family will receive friends to celebrate Glenn’s life from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday, May 10, 2022 at the Brunner Sanden Deitrick Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 8466 Mentor

Ave., Mentor, OH 44060. A funeral service in his honor will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 11, 2022 at Mentor United Methodist Church, 8600 Mentor Ave., Mentor, OH 44060.
