“These investments will help revitalize existing buildings, bring new retail opportunities and help support the growth and future of the overall community.”
Other companies that received funding from the grant include Gartman’s Model Bakery, Soto’s Insurance, Lake County Free Clinic and Federico Tire.
Mary Jo Miller, owner and founder of Bella Donna Salon and Spa and board member of the Downtown Painesville Organization, said that a lot of time went into how to use their grant money, before deciding to use their funds to install new windows.
Miller added that was followed by a lot of preparation and thought to make sure that the salon stayed in line with classic historical sights of downtown Painesville.
“The business has changed a lot and has gone through a lot. I think everyone will really love the way it looks,” she said. “It blends the old historic look with the new, and my hope is that it will spur new business owners to be with us as well.”
Bella Donna has been operating in downtown Painesville for over 34 years. Miller said that the salon started as a small establishment with just a few rooms before expanding and adding a spa and second-floor which hosts several rooms where the salon can provide massages, facials and other beautifying treatments.
“I really enjoy being in the community,” se said. “It’s a great place to have a business, and our city managers are doing a great job.”
With the nearby former Chase building being renovated into a dormitory for Lake Erie College, Miller says that they expect to see more foot traffic in the area.
