Setting a Northeast Ohio record for funds raised might be a nice feeling for the staff and customers who supported the March 12 St. Baldrick’s event at Jenniffer and Company Salon in Mentor, but not nearly as rewarding as knowing what the money is going for.

According to a news release, more than 10 individuals, including salon owner Jennifer Pealer, had their heads shaved at Jenniffer and Company to help fund research aimed at curing childhood cancer during the annual St. Baldrick’s charity event.

The Jenniffer and Company St. Baldrick team was named Team Jacob, in honor of Jacob Rago, who died at age 16 from Burkitt’s lymphoma. Team Jacob raised $13,005 from donations and gift basket raffles, a record for the salon and the largest amount raised by any salon in Northeast Ohio.

According to the release, over the last five years, Jenniffer and Company has raised a total of nearly $65,000 for The St. Baldrick’s Foundation.

“We couldn’t have raised this amount of money without the generosity and support of our big-hearted customers and friends,” Pealer said. “Our staff, led by Sammy Barresi, went above and beyond to make this record-breaking fundraiser

happen.”

St. Baldrick’s is a volunteer-based charity organization which raises money to research cures for childhood cancer. Every two minutes, a child somewhere in the world is diagnosed with cancer. In the U.S., 1 in 5 will not survive. The St. Baldrick’s Foundation, the

largest charitable funder of childhood cancer research grants, supports the most promising research to find cures and better treatments for all childhood cancers, the release stated.

Since 2005, St. Baldrick’s Foundation has invested over $326 million in childhood cancer research grants

worldwide.

Jenniffer and Company is a full-service salon and spa with locations in Mentor and Mentor-on-the-Lake.
