LCGS to hear about DNA in research

The next Lake County Genealogical Society meeting will be from 10 a.m. to noon March 30.

The LCGS is meeting will again be on Zoom and will feature a short business meeting followed by this month’s speaker — Mary Milne Jamba, whose topic will be “The Results are In! Using Your DNA To Find Answers,” according to a news release.

There will be a brief question-and-answer session at the end of the presentation.

“The excitement of receiving your DNA results can quickly turn to confusion,” the Genealogical Society stated in the release. “Understanding how to use this information can further your genealogical research. This presentation will help you learn how to interpret your DNA results to make them more useful.”

Jamba has been doing genealogy research for 30 years, the release stated. With a special interest in genetic genealogy, she has resolved more than 100 unknown parent cases.

She frequently gives presentations to local and national audiences and serves on the board of many Ohio genealogy groups in various capacities including DNA User Group Leader of the Computer Assisted Genealogy Group.

The Genealogical Society usually meets on the last Thursday of the month.

Besides learning from the speakers, members help each other at the Lake County Genealogical Society Special Interest Group, which meets virtually using Zoom the first Thursday of each month at 10 a.m. until noon.
