Richmond Heights trio earn first team All-Ohio

The accolades continue to come for Division IV state champion Richmond Heights. Clark Kellogg Award winner Dorian Jones earned D-IV state player of the year, while teammates De’Erick Barber and Hosea Steele also took home firstteam honors.

Jones, a 6-foot-4 guard, led the Spartans to backto-back state titles with his scoring ability. He connected on 11 3-pointers in the state round with seven of them in the state championsh­ip game. H

He averaged 20.1 points and seven rebounds this season.

Barber ran the point for the Spartans and his passing ability played to the strength of his teammates as he consistent­ly found them ways to get the ball in the best situation. His 8.8 assists a game average paced the coverage area.

Steele was a versatile forward for Richmond Heights as he was able to run the point, work the glass and score the ball. He finished with 15.8 points, 10.2 rebounds and 4.9 assists.

The area rep on the second team in D-IV was Cornerston­e sophomore Quinn Kwasniak. A strong shooter, Kwasniak ended the season with 125 3s, which is third in state history for a single season. He averaged 29.6 points a game.

In D-III three CVC players earned spots on the AllOhio teams. Beachwood senior Nathan Lurie and Perry senior found their way to the second team while Chagrin Falls senior James Kosmides came in on the third team.

Lurie led Beachwood to their first district title in 10 seasons as he averaged 26.1 points while Cubbison steered the Pirates to the district final against the Bison, averaging 21.3 points a game. Kosmides averaged 12.9 points and was a stalwart on the defensive side with 5.9 blocks a game.

A plethora of other area athletes were named to the special and honorable mentions lists.
