Mount Union
The following students were acknowledged at the University of Mount Union’s Senior Recognition and Honors Convocation of 2023.
Justin Arnold of Cleveland was awarded The James H. Wuske Endowed Prize. This prize is awarded to a deserving student athlete who participates in track and field, excels in the classroom, plans a career in teaching and coaching, and demonstrates the values and work ethic displayed by the coach.
Clorise Busch of Jefferson was awarded The Mount Union Players’ Hall of Fame Award. This prize is awarded to the senior student showing outstanding and versatile participation in drama for four years.
The recipient’s name will be placed on a plaque in the Rodman Playhouse.
Sindey Chaffee of Madison was awarded The International Studies Award. This prize is awarded to that student of sophomore or junior level, who is chosen for his or her outstanding achievement in the field of international studies.
Darby Leininger of Chardon was awarded The Department of Visual Arts and Media Purchase Award.
Joseph Lombard of Wickliffe was awarded The Doyle-Montagno Prize. This prize is awarded to a sophomore or junior who demonstrates significant improvement in overall academic performance.
Alaina Metzler of Geneva was awarded The Morgan-Song Leadership Prize in Chemistry; The Laurie Kolenbrander Scholarship. This prize is awarded to a chemistry major having accomplished outstanding academic excellence, demonstrated leadership qualities and who has successively completed the Organic Chemistry II course.; Awarded in memory of the wife of the ninth president of the University.
Alyssa Portzer of Rome was awarded The TeepleKrohn Prize. This prize is awarded to the University of Mount Union student who obtains the first chair in the clarinet section of the band/orchestra.
Each year, the convocation honors graduating seniors and underclass students who have excelled academically, displayed excellent leadership skills and shown dedication to the University and community through outstanding community service initiatives.
• Rita Pollock of Mentor was featured in the University of Mount Union’s newest exhibit, featuring the Senior Culminating Experience projects of three UMU seniors.
