Juried art show coming to Geauga

Geauga Park District recently announced that The West Woods Nature Center will be home to the Geauga Arts Council Juried Art Show this summer.

It opens with a Meet the Artists event from 7 to 9 p.m. Aug. 18 and will remain on display daily 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. through early October. This will be the 17th year this special local show is hosted in the West Woods, 9465 Kinsman Road in Russell Township.

“Geauga Arts Council is non-profit group dedicated to the enrichment of our community through the promotion of education, access and participation in the arts,” Holly Sauder, special events coordinator at the Park District, stated in a news release. “From this art show, we have come to expect a fine selection of artwork rendered in a wide range of media and style. It is always our pleasure to partner and promote it.”

Library now offers Mango Languages

Learn a language during free time and without paying for expensive software with Mango Languages, a new database available through Mentor Public Library.

Mango uses an adaptive algorithm to provide a personalized language-learning experience. It can empower people to communicate with confidence when experiencing a new language and culture, according to a news release.

Mango offers online instruction in more than 70 languages, including Spanish,

French, Japanese, Italian, German, Korean, Chinese (both Mandarin and Cantonese), Russian, Arabic, and Hindi.

Mango Languages is free to use with a card from any public library in Ohio, the release stated.

To start learning, visit mentorpl.org/databases and select “Mango Languages.” Participants will need an email address to create an account. Once they do, they can practice the language of their choice online or by using the Mango Languages app, the release stated.
