Singing Angels holding open auditions

The Singing Angels Youth Chorus announced it is continuing to hold open auditions for new members through the August and early September.

Remaining scheduled audition dates at the Singing Angels Studios, 3600 Biddulph Ave., Suite A, in Cleveland, are:

• Aug. 23 from 6 to 8 p.m.

• Sept. 5 from 6 to 8 p.m.

• Sept. 7 from 6 to 8 p.m. If prospective members would like to audition but cannot make these dates, other times are available by appointment, according to a news release.

Membership is open to children in second grade through 12th grade. The first rehearsal for the fall season is scheduled for Sept. 9.

“We are very excited about our upcoming performance season,” Executive Director Tom Deastlov stated in the release. “The staff has spent the last several months ‘re-envisioning’ both our stage show and how the organization is run behind the scenes.

“We started with a self-assessment, reviewing from members and families, identifying our strengths and challenges, and asking ourselves question after question about how we can increase engagement with our members, address the challenges our families face — time commitment, for example — and how we can immerse the audience in a musical experience rather than simply putting on a concert,” he added.

“What can we add to our show while keeping our history and traditions?”

Their vision will now be presented to members, their families and other interested parties through August.

The group will celebrate its 60th year in 2024. In that time they have traveled the world, performing in more than 30 countries, visiting the Vatican three times, and performing for four American presidents along with several world leaders and dignitaries, the release stated.

In 2023 they were invited to represent Ohio at the ceremonies commemorating the 100th anniversary of the Lincoln Memorial, and have since been invited to perform in Normandy, France, in June of 2024 in the ceremonies marking the 80th anniversary of D-Day.
