Robert L. Schwed

Memorial services for Robert L. Schwed, 79, of Mentor, will be at 12 noon on Saturday, October 28, 2023 at Davis-Babcock Funeral Home, 4154 Clark Avenue, Willoughby. Pastor Doug Schafer will officiate at the service. The family will receive friends from 10 AM until 12 noon, prior to the service on Saturday, at the funeral home. Mr. Schwed passed away Friday, September 29, 2023 at his home. Born May 31, 1944 in Cleveland, he was raised in Eastlake and was a longtime Mentor resident. Bob was a graduate of Eastlake North High School, Lakeland Community College and Kent State University, where he earned his Bachelor of Science in Journalism. He served three years in the United States Army, stationed in Germany. He was an avid fisherman and hunter, loved his boats, Scotch and a good cigar. He was employed as a reporter at the News-Herald, and as a senior editor at Penton Publishing / Contracting Business. He also sold real estate for Caldwell Banker Real Estate. Survivors are his sons, Michael (Janet) Schwed and Joel Schwed; grandson, Nolan Schwed; sister, Sally (Gary) Boyer and sisters-in-law, Brenda Schwed and Bonnie Coulton. He also leaves many nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and his dog, Ziggy. He was preceded in death by his wife, Robin (Coulton) Schwed in January 1999. His parents, Oswald and Olga Schwed, brother, Lawrence Schwed and brothers-in-law, Chris Coulton and Dan Coulton are also deceased.
