Betty (Bernadette) Fitzgerald (nee Lalumiere), age 94, was peacefully raised to heaven October 15, 2023 after a 30-day battle with cancer. Betty was born on November 5, 1928 in Penetangui­shene, ON to Aime and Bertha Lalumiere (deceased parents). Her love story was expressed by her loving husband Don referring to her as “my beautiful bride”. You would find them on the dance floor any chance they had. She was known as “Gramma Betty” to many. She raised their 9 children and went on to care for several grandchild­ren and other children in their home. Betty filled her days with knitting and crocheting for family, boutiques and charities. She shared her love of knitting by teaching others. Betty loved spending time in both the vegetable garden and flower beds, and growing house plants and orchids. She loved playing cards and working challengin­g jigsaw puzzles. Saturday mornings were spent in the kitchen baking, with her specialtie­s being pies, tarts, and bread. She was a long-time parishione­r of St. Mary Magdalene church, sang in the Morning Glories choir, and was a loyal member of the prayer shawl ministry and Willowick Senior Center. A true pillar of the community. Along with being First Lady of Willowick, Betty will be remembered by many for her “election day” soup. Her gift of hospitalit­y and caring nature have been emulated by those she touched. Betty is survived by her loving children: Carol (Donald) Schedler, Susan (Barry) Rubin, Edward (Theresa) Fitzgerald, Bruce (Mary) Fitzgerald, Don (Darcy) Fitzgerald, and Judy (Rob) Williams; 16 grandchild­ren: John Kerezsi, Shelly Schedler, Jason (Sarah) Schedler, Donald (Brittanie) Schedler II, Brian (Allison) Schedler, Edward Fitzgerald Jr., Robert (Carla) Fitzgerald, Adam (Brenna) Bailey, Lindsay (Brian) Hawkins, James R. St. John, Kimberly (Anthony) LaSpina, Danielle (Jeremy) Butwina, Kara Fitzgerald, Amy (Chris) Dawson, Joe (Sarah) Palker, and Becky (Dan) Lile; 32 great grandchild­ren; 1 great-great grandson; daughtersi­n-law Geraldine (Ronald) Fitzgerald and Susan (Martin) Fitzgerald; siblings, Francis (Theresa) Light, Gerry (Dawna) Light, and Patricia (Tom) McNamara. She was preceded in death by her loving husband A. Donald Fitzgerald; children, Ronald Fitzgerald, Martin Fitzgerald, and Donna St. John; son-in-law James T. St. John; and siblings, Marie Desrochers, Eva Lortie, Peter Light, Estelle MacInnis, Henry Light, Herman Light, and Ted Light. Visitation will be held Monday from 2-4 & 6-8 pm at Monreal Srnick Funerals & Cremations, 35400 Curtis Blvd., Eastlake Funeral mass for Bernadette Fitzgerald will be held on Tuesday, October 24, 2023 at 10:30 am at St. Mary Magdelene Church, 32114 Vine St., Willowick. Burial in Mentor Cemetery, Mentor, Ohio.
