TLC stays overnight at Starved Rock Lodge coming and/or going from some of our longer trips out west, and people often tell us they wish they could stay here longer because it’s such a beautiful, relaxing place and there’s much to enjoy. Located in Illinois in Starved Rock State Park, the architectu­re of this historic stone-and-log Lodge, which was built by the Civilian Conservati­on Corps in the 1930’s, rivals that of National Park lodges! And there’s a plethora of things to see & do in the area, as well as the natural beauty and relaxing atmosphere that the towering pines and century-old oaks provide. Read on and see why we are sure you’ll fall in love with this destinatio­n just like so many others in our TLC family have! ~ Traveling to Oglesby, IL, we arrive along the banks of the Illinois River at Starved Rock Lodge in time for a lovely dinner in their impressive rustic Dining Room. Open beams soar overhead, beautiful log walls create inviting spaces, and a massive stone fireplace graces the center of the large expanse * A local historian-storytelle­r will share the history of this scenic area and interestin­g facts about the lodge itself * A special highlight will be over at White Pines Lodge nestled in a clearing deep in the forest of White Pines Forest State Park where lunch and a memory-stirring show await our arrival! Your toes will be tappin’ and your hands a’clappin’ as “Salute to the Songs of the Statler Brothers” is performed live by the wonderful Americana group known as the River City Boys! Straight from Nashville, they’ll serenade us with the songs of the Statler Brothers 2002 “Farewell Concert”, such as ‘Hello Mary Lou’, ‘Flowers on the Wall’, ‘Do You Know You Are My Sunshine’, and so many more – what a great time! * Another marvelous experience will be our Sainte Genevieve Sunset Cruise on a true paddlewhee­l riverboat. Light on narration, heavy on ambiance & views, you’ll bask in the beautiful sights of the Illinois River Valley, and can take even more of it in from the expansive top deck featuring a 360-degree view of the Illinois River. As part of this sailing adventure, enjoy a delightful cocktail buffet featuring heavy appetizers and curated bites from local restaurant­s * Board the Lodge’s Trolley and embark on a guided tour of this scenic area and learn of its rich history * One afternoon, board the ‘Eagle I’ for a lovely pontoon boat ride to see the east end of Starved Rock State Park by water – Fun! * Take the Trolley into Utica and spend time downtown perusing the little stores and getting dinner one evening * Enjoy Free Time to savor the Lodge and surroundin­g state park area any way you wish! There are miles of marked trails as well as a beautiful indoor pool and hot tub – spend it however you like! * As with most State Parks, the deadline for our space is much earlier than normal.
