Retired Teachers Association to hear about Great Lakes
The Lake County Retired Teachers Association will hold its next luncheon meeting April 9 at The Kirtland Party Center, 9270 Chillicothe Road in Kirtland.
Social time begins at 11 a.m., followed at 11:30 by the program in which members will hear 10 of the most important national stories that came from the Great Lakes from speaker Christopher Gillcrist, according to a news release
Lunch will be served following the program. The menu will include meat (beef on sourdough or turkey on multigrain) or vegetarian wrap, soup, salad, and chips. All meals will be served with water, coffee, iced tea and lemonade and cookies for dessert.
Reservations must be made in advance, by sending a check payable to “LCRTA” for $22 to Karen Sawitke at 9399 Ridgeside Drive, Mentor, OH, 44060. Indicate meal choice on the memo line of the check.
The deadline of March 29 will be strictly enforced, the release stated.
Gillcrist is the director emeritus of the National Museum of the Great Lakes and former executive director of the Lake County Historical Society. The museum, located in Toledo, reveals the varied and fascinating history of the Great Lakes.
The LCRTA will participate in the United Way of Lake County Food Drive, with members asked to bring an item to donate. The most needed donations are canned fruit, corn, tuna and chicken as well as soup, juice and powdered milk. Also appreciated would be cereal, peanut butter and jelly, and pasta and sauce.
LCRTA will also continue to collect the pull tabs from aluminum cans which will be delivered to Ronald McDonald House.
The Lake County Retired Teachers Association meets five times per year for luncheon meetings, enjoys specially prepared programs at each luncheon to learn something new, hosts several “Dine to Donate” fundraisers to raise money to support the scholarships presented to high school seniors.
