Concord Twp. man allegedly killed girlfriend, then attempted to kill himself
A Concord Township man accused of killing his girlfriend before attempting to commit suicide has been arraigned on a charge of aggravated murder.
According to court documents, Brian K. Doerner entered a plea of not guilty to the first-degree felony charge April 15 in the Painesville Municipal Court. No bond was set and the 53-year-old remained in the Lake County Jail.
Doerner was set to appear by video in front of Judge Paul Malchesky in a preliminary hearing on April 16.
According to a Lake County Sheriff’s Office news release, on April 12 at approximately 6:58 p.m., deputies responded to a residence on Lochness Drive in Concord Township in reference to a male who had reportedly attempted to commit suicide after killing his girlfriend.
Deputies arrived on scene and found a man in his garage bleeding excessively from apparent self-inflicted wounds.
Upon further investigation of the scene, a 47-year-old Concord Township woman was found inside the residence deceased.
Chief Deputy Robert Izzo confirmed Doerner was the male suspect found in the garage.
According to the release, it was learned the two had been involved in a relationship and resided at the location together. Initial investigation revealed the man killed the woman by means of strangulation/suffocation and then attempted to commit suicide unsuccessfully as he was found with numerous self-inflicted knife wounds.
Doerner was transported to University Hospitals TriPoint Medical Center to be treated for his injuries.
The woman succumbed to her injuries at the scene.
The matter remains under investigation, the release stated.
