Phillies, Flyers, soccer friendly to create traffic nightmare

-

The Phillies are scheduled to take on the Arizona Diamondbacks at 8:07 p.m. at Citizens Bank Park in game two of the NLCS.

As a result and out of consideration for fans and tailgaters, the Philadelphia Flyers will move up their home game against the Vancouver Canucks to 6 p.m. at the Wells Fargo Center for the team’s home opener.

The Flyers-Canucks game was originally scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.

And the friendly soccer match between Mexico and Germany at Lincoln Financial Field has been pushed back to 8 p.m. The match, part of the Mexican National Team U.S. Tour, had an original start time of 7:30 p.m.

Tuesday night is shaping up to be a traffic nightmare for anyone heading to any of those games ... or anywhere else in South Philadelphia on that evening.

Here are some options to avoid the jam up.

How do I get to Philly sports complex?

SEPTA is still working on plans to deal with three sporting events in the city. (Each night, more than 42,000 Phillies fans fill the seats at Citizens Bank Park for Phillies games and the National League Championship Series.)

“We’re still working on those plans, right now,” said Kelly Greene, a spokesperson for the transit agency. “We know on Tuesday it’s going to be crazy down there.”

PATCO did not immediately respond to requests about transit service from New Jersey to the games.

In the past, SEPTA has offered free service to sporting events and political conventions in the city, though no decision was announced Friday afternoon, one day after the Phils sealed their NLDS win over Atlanta.

For those who want to avoid traffic around the sports complex, SEPTA’s Broad Street line runs directly into the nest of stadiums. You could drive into the city, park near a subway stop, and hop a train to avoid some hassles.

For game 2 of the NLCS, SEPTA will be offering free rides on the Broad Street Line to and from NRG Station.

Free rides will start at 5 p.m. and continue until the last train of the night. SEPAT is encouraging fans to go directly to NRG Station after the games to ensure they get their train home.

Closest to the stadiums, the Tasker

Morris SEPTA station has a handful of nearby paid parking lots and garages. You could park in the lot at 1301 S. 13th St. or the lot at 15th Street and Washington Avenue. The Philadelphia Parking Authority also maintains a lot 12th and Morris streets in the city and within a five-minute walk to the Tasker-Morris station.

A few blocks north, you could also hop on the Broad Street subway line from the Lombard-South station. Three parking garages are located near the station. You’ll find a parking garage at 1418 South St. A second is located at 627 S. 15th St. A third garage is located at 480 S. Broad St.

All are located within a five-minute walk to the Broad Street line and the night’s three big games.
