WILMINGTON - Laraine A. Ryan, 64, peacefully passed away on Thursday, January 11, 2024.

Born in Wilmington on August 20, 1959, Laraine was a graduate of John Dickinson High School. She earned her undergradu­ate degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and earned her Juris Doctorate from Pepperdine University. Laraine is a member of the Bar in several states and has been in private practice as an immigratio­n attorney for over 35 years.

Laraine was a member of St. Peter’s Church in New Castle, as well as the parish choir. She was also a member of the Delaware Bible Study Fellowship. Laraine loved music and was trained on the piano and guitar, often writing original songs. She was also an avid writer, having documented family history starting from childhood until the present. Her writings are a gift to her family and her greatest legacy. Her happiest times were spent being a loving and supportive aunt to her nieces and nephews.

Her father, John D. Ryan, passed away in 2021. Laraine will be dearly missed by her mother, Barbara (Mooney) Ryan; her siblings, Bridget Smith (Stephen); Matthew Ryan (Paula), her nieces and nephews, Kelsey Cummings (Bryan), Adam Smith (Leah), Connor Smith (Callie), Alex Ryan, Raymond Powell, Maggie Ryan, and Lucia Ryan; her great nephew and great niece, Henry Cummings, and Lucy James Smith.

Family and friends are invited to visit at St. Peter’s R.C. Church, 521 Harmony Street, New Castle on Saturday, January 27 from 9:30 – 10:30 AM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 AM, immediatel­y followed by interment in the parish cemetery.
