John Mark Longoria

-

John Mark Longoria, 61, of Pike Creek, DE, passed away peacefully on February 16th after a 16-month battle with cancer.

John was born in Corpus Christi, TX, to the late Juan and Adeilia Chavana Longoria. He received an undergraduate degree from Yale in Chemical Engineering, and a Master of Science in Chemical Engineering Practice from The Massachusetts Institute of Technology. John enjoyed a 38 year career at Chemours/DuPont before retiring in 2023.

John was an active member of the local community. He loved the Boy Scouts, where he served as Cubmaster for Pack 959 and Scoutmaster for Troop 803. In addition to his Eagle Scout Dad pin, he earned eleven Eagle Scout Mentor pins; an honor given to the adult mentor who was instrumental to the Scout reaching their Eagle rank.

Whenever John entered a room, his first priority was to make everyone smile. His compassion for others touched the lives of so many. John showed us that life’s purpose is to spread love and laughter.

John enjoyed camping at Trap Pond, beach vacations to Avalon, NJ, hiking at White Clay Creek, kayaking at Lums Pond, skiing everywhere from the Poconos to the Cottonwoods, and disc golfing at the many courses in Delaware. He loved watching the birds in his backyard and listening to his sons’ musical performances. His annual Super Bowl Party was always headlined by John’s Famous Super Bowl Fajitas; a tradition that will live on forever.

John is survived by his wife of 30 years, Kelly (Marek) Longoria; his sons, Jeremy, Eric and Tim; his sisters, Doris (Mallia) and Eileen; his nephews, Chris (Mallia) and Josh (Mallia); as well as many members of his extended family. He will be dearly missed.

Services will be held privately.

“Death ends a life, not a relationship. All the love you created is still there. All the memories are still there. You live on - in the hearts of everyone you have touched and nurtured.”
