James Beck Boyer
GEORGETOWN - James Beck Boyer, age 85 of Georgetown, DE, passed away peacefully on March 22, 2024, at the Harrison Senior Living in Georgetown. He was born on January 19, 1939, son of the late Wilson G. Boyer and Virginia Chipman Boyer.
After graduation, Jimmy as everyone knew him, served in the United States Coast Guard. Later, he worked for many years at the Arrow Safety Company and the Sussex Pines Country Club.
He was the last of his family, a true character in the Georgetown community, and everyone knew him. In his early years he used to play ice hockey and his favorite team was the Philadelphia Flyers. Whether it be keeping court at the Sussex Pines Country Club or when his health prevented him from having the ability to walk long distances, his riding lawn mower became the mode of travel, even downtown to get his breakfast at one of the local eateries. Jimmy always had a smile and story to tell anyone who would listen.
He was a devoted and faithful supporter of the Georgetown Historical Society, was an avid collector of trains and had a complete display in his home. His extensive collection was donated by him to the museum a few years ago and they named the display, “The James Boyer Train Station”.
St Paul’s Episcopal Church in Georgetown was his spiritual support, and this was where he and his parents had faithfully attended and supported in many ways over the years.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday April 3, 2024, at 3 PM at the Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Dodd-Carey Chapel, 307 North Bedford Street, Georgetown, DE where viewing will be from 2 PM to 3 PM at the funeral home. Burial will be private at Union Cemetery in the family plot.
