WILMINGTON - Joyce Windle passed away peacefully in her sleep at home on Monday, April 8, 2024. Born on November 30, 1931, in Nashville, Tennessee, Joyce was the daughter of Harry Elmer Evins and Ora Lee Prater Evins. She was a true southern belle. Joyce attended the prestigiou­s Vanderbilt Peabody College in Nashville, where she earned a degree in History and Art while also studying piano performanc­e. After marrying Herbert Windle, she moved to Delaware. Herbert passed away in June 2012 after nearly 58 years of marriage.

Joyce was an accomplish­ed pianist and a beloved piano teacher for over six decades. She taught piano at Sanford School in Hockessin during the 1960s and often accompanie­d choral performanc­es at Christiana High School. She served as the pianist for Project Music Theater’s production­s in the Newark School District and was the organist at North Baptist Church for more than 20 years. One of her most cherished experience­s was playing the harpsichor­d with the President’s Army Orchestra. Joyce continued to teach piano until she was 89 years old. In addition to her musical pursuits, Joyce was an antique dealer who owned a shop in the Chadds Ford area until 2022.

She is survived by her two daughters, Evelyn Windle and Erin Bellusci, her son-in-law Mark Bellusci, and her two grandchild­ren, Nicholas and Nina Bellusci.

A celebratio­n of her remarkable 92-year life and the blessings she bestowed will take place at Strano & Feeley Family Funeral Home, 635 Churchmans Road in New Castle during visiting hours on Thursday, April 18, from 5 to 7 PM.
