GLEN MILLS - Florence Evelyn Carter Moisson Rice, 86, of Glen Mills, PA, passed away peacefully on March 28, 2024.

She was born on September 11, 1937 to Otis L. and Kathryn Carter in Salisbury, NC.

After graduation from Greenville High School in 1955, Florence received a B.A. in Mathematic­s from Furman University and an M.Ed. in Organizati­onal Developmen­t and Adult Education from Temple University in 1994.

Early in her career, she held various positions including math teacher, secretary, and bookkeeper. In 1967, Florence joined the DuPont Company and worked there for 24 years. She held various supervisor­y and management positions in the Organic Chemical Division (Wilmington, DE), the Photo Products Division (Parlin, NJ), and the Informatio­n Systems Department. She was part of a team that installed the first process control computer system in the Parlin plant, and in Wilmington, she was the project manager for a large, on-line national warehouse inventory and automated customer order management system. She left DuPont in 1992 to found Integrated Learning, Inc., a training and organizati­onal developmen­t consulting company. She retired in 1997.

Florence is pre-deceased by her sisters, Betty Jane Carter Gault and Kathryn Sue Carter Patton, and nephew, Ernest Patton II. She is survived by her nephew Jeff Patton of Atlanta, GA, and his daughters Madeline and Michelle; nephew Ernest’s wife, Millie Patton of Coral Springs, FL and their children Trey and Evelyn; nephew Carter Gault (Linda) of Clinton, SC, and their children Casey Spain (Chad), Andy Gault (Chelsea), Matthew Gault (Hannah); niece Ginger Gault Phipps (Bobby) of Tracy City, TN and their children Adam Phipps (Della), and Rachel Phipps.

Florence is also preceded in death by three loving husbands, Richard (Dick) Moisson (d. 1994), William Rice (d. 2003), and Edward Williams (d. 2020).

Her marriage to Dick Moisson brought her two nephews, Bill and Doug Moisson and their families. With William Rice, Florence became a cherished part of a family with three stepdaught­ers, Connie Rice, Amy Webb, and Mary Rice and their families. Her family was further expanded with her marriage to Ed Williams to include four stepsons; Edward Williams, Jr., Robert Williams, John Williams, and James Williams and their families, and a beloved sister-in-law, Kathy Lindsay. Florence was a special and treasured member of all of these families.

Florence found her spiritual home at the First Unitarian Church in Wilmington, DE. She was the past President of the Board and the former chair of the Membership Committee, and was active on various committees at the church. Her business acumen and open heart touched many lives in her volunteer work on the Board of Limen House, a unique recovery home in Wilmington, DE.

Florence brought beauty and joy to all who knew her. She was an elegant, considerat­e, and empathetic friend. She was a lot of fun to be with and loved to laugh. She loved to sail, take cruises, and traveled the world, including to ports in China and the Falkland Islands. Florence made friends wherever she went and will be missed dearly by the Friends of Florence, her Brown Bag Group, and her many friends at the First Unitarian church, at Maris Grove Senior Living Community, and all over the world.

Florence was grounded in her spiritual life and knew she was in good hands, both in this world and the next.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 18, 2024 at 1:00pm at First Unitarian Church, Wilmington, DE. The family will receive friends after the service in the parish hall at the church.
