Wilmington police report seven people shot in just a little more than 30 hours

- Hannah Edelman

Seven people have been shot, one fatally, in Wilmington since Wednesday afternoon, according to city police.

All but one of the victims were younger than 24 years old.

The city has not seen this many shooting victims in this short of a period since July 26, 2021, when eight people were shot — five of them fatally.

Wilmington’s latest shooting in a nearly 30-hour span occurred Thursday night in the city’s Price Run neighborhood.

That’s where police said a 58-yearold woman was shot about 8:20 p.m. in the area of East 22nd and North Spruce streets.

The woman was taken to an area hospital. Police did not provide her medical condition, but said she was stable.

7 shot in 30 hours and 13 minutes

Wilmington’s first shooting in this nearly 30-hour period took place in Southbridge at 2:10 p.m. on Wednesday, killing one teen and injuring another, according to police.

The second shooting occurred eight and a half hours later in Browntown, leaving two injured.

A 16-year-old was shot in Southbridge less than three hours after that.

Police reported another shooting at 4:55 p.m. Thursday in Wilmington’s Hilltop neighborhood, where a 21-yearold man was shot on the 300 block of N. Franklin St.

He was taken to the hospital in “stable” condition, according to police.

An additional two people were shot outside of Wilmington on Wednesday morning, leaving a man in Dover dead and a woman injured in Ellendale.

Arrests were made in both of these shootings.

No arrests have been made in any of the Wilmington shootings.
