Aaron Othello McCrickard, age 99, of Raleigh, was born in Franklin County, Vir­ginia on Novem­ber 3, 1919 to Henry Clay and Lera Hicks McCrickard. He died on Thurs­day, Jan­uary 3, 2019, in Cor­nelius, North Car­olina. He at­tended Lynch­burg Col­lege, Lynch­burg, VA, earn­ing his de­gree in Busi­ness Ad­min­is­tra­tion in 1942. In Au­gust 1942, while in col­lege, he en­listed in the Naval Re­serve V-7 pro­gram and af­ter re­ceiv­ing his de­gree he en­tered the U.S. Naval Re­serve Mid­ship­man’s School at North­west­ern Univer­sity, and re­ceived his com­mis­sion in the Naval Re­serve in De­cem­ber 1943. Dur­ing WWII he served aboard LST682 as Sup­ply and Com­mis­sary Of­fi­cer and later as the Ex­ec­u­tive Of­fi­cer, achiev­ing the rank of Lieu­tenant. Aaron con­tin­ued to be a mem­ber of the Re­tired Re­serve at the time of his death. Dur­ing WWII he saw ac­tion in the Euro­pean and Pa­cific The­aters. He was at Nor­mandy on D-day. Af­ter WWII he was em­ployed with the Veter­ans Ad­min­is­tra­tion, Roanoke, VA for about six years in var­i­ous po­si­tions. In May 1952, he was em­ployed by the So­cial Se­cu­rity Ad­min­is­tra­tion, Welch, W.VA and was trans­ferred to Char­lotte, NC. Af­ter fours years there as a Field Rep­re­sen­ta­tive and As­sis­tant Dis­trict Man­ager he was trans­ferred to Durham, NC as As­sis­tant Dis­trict Man­ager. He served in the Durham of­fice un­til his re­tire­ment. While in Durham, he was a mem­ber of the West Durham Busi­ness Club and the Civ­i­tan Club. Through­out his life Aaron has been faith­ful to his Lord, his fam­ily, and his coun­try. He was a mem­ber of the Townsend Cou­ples Class at Hayes Bar­ton Bap­tist Church. Dur­ing his time at Hayes Bar­ton Bap­tist Church he served on var­i­ous com­mit­tees and as a Dea­con. Aaron will be missed by his fam­ily who sur­vive him; his wife of 75 years, Gar­nett Slay­ton McCrickard; daugh­ter, Jane M. Lam­bert and her hus­band, Brent, their four chil­dren; Austin, Blake, Con­nor and Bar­rett all of Cor­nelius, NC; daugh­ter-in-law, Dawn McCrickard of New York City; brother, JB McCrickard of Vir­ginia Beach, VA and many nieces and neph­ews. He is pre­ceded in death by his son, Robert McCrickard in 2016; brothers Leonard, Wil­lard and Chap­man; and sis­ter, Ruby McCrickard Bar­low. A Grave­side Ser­vice will be held at 1:00 PM, Wednes­day, Jan­uary 9, 2019 in Franklin Me­mo­rial Park, Rocky Mount, VA. The me­mo­rial ser­vice will be held Sat­ur­day, Jan­uary 12, 2019 at 1PM at Hayes Bar­ton Bap­tist Church in Raleigh.
