Tar Heels pick up com­mit from top line­backer

Vance High line­backer Power Echols, the MVP of the N.C. 4A state cham­pi­onship game, has com­mit­ted to North Carolina. Echols an­nounced his com­mit on so­cial me­dia.

Echols, a 6-foot-2, 220pound ju­nior line­backer, told the Ob­server in De­cem­ber he had nar­rowed his po­ten­tial col­leges to Clem­son, Penn State and North Carolina.

Last sea­son, Echols had 156 tack­les with 14 sacks and 22 tack­les for loss. He forced seven fum­bles. Echols, a two-time all­con­fer­ence se­lec­tion, is also a two-time Char­lotte Ob­server De­fen­sive Player of the Year. He was named the N.C. As­so­ci­ated Press De­fen­sive Player of the Year as a sopho­more. He is a fi­nal­ist for the award this sea­son.
