Raleigh, North Carolina - Barbara “Kay” Johnson Cone, age 89, of Raleigh, North Carolina passed away on Saturday, May 4, 2024.

Kay was born in Middlesex, NC on July 23, 1934. She graduated from Middlesex high school and continued on to receive a Bachelor’s Degree in Education from Meredith College.

Kay was married to the love of her life, the late Paul Bobby Cone, until his passing in in 1984. She never remarried.

Kay was a loving wife, and stay at home mother, raising three sons and later worked as a customer service operator at UPS for many years. She loved her entire family dearly. She played the piano, loved flowers, and watching the birds on the feeder. Kay never met a stranger. She had high school and college classmates, countless friends and dear neighbors whom she knew her entire life. She loved to walk the neighborho­ods in North Raleigh, speaking with anyone who would take the time to chat. She was a long standing member at First Baptist Church of Raleigh.

Kay is survived by her three sons, Paul Barry Cone (Gale) of Raleigh NC, Joseph Randall Cone (Laura) of Wake Forest, David Johnson Cone (Nancy) of Salisbury, NC, and her grandchild­ren: Mandy, Travis, Austin, Corey and Morgan.

Kay is preceded in death by her husband, Paul Bobby Cone, her brother, Joseph Kent “Dub” Johnson, and her parents, Percy and Carolina Johnson.

A Visitation will be held on Friday, May 17th, 2024 from 12:00 – 1:30 PM at Brown Wynne Funeral Home, 1701 E. Millbrook Road in Raleigh. To be followed by a private family funeral.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be directed to First Baptist Church, 99 North Salisbury Street, Raleigh, NC 27603 or to a charity of your choice.
