Hawk flew away from us Wed­nes­day morn­ing. He was the sole child of the late El­wood and Vir­ginia Par­ris Haw­ley. He is sur­vived by his un­cle, New­man Par­ris and a host of cousins and friends.

Raised in the Five Points area, Den­nis grad­u­ated with the class of 1964 from Ralph L. Fike High School and was awarded an As­so­ciates De­gree in Busi­ness Ad­min­is­tra­tion in 1973 from Wil­son Tech­ni­cal Com­mu­nity Col­lege. He en­listed in the United StatesNavy and served in Viet­nam, re­ceiv­ing an Hon­or­able Dis­charge in 1969. Trained as a book­keeper, he worked in Raleigh and At­lantic Beach, as well as Wil­son es­tab­lish­ing and op­er­at­ing sev­eral well-known busi­nesses’ in the en­ter­tain­ment, din­ing and tobacco fields.

A life­long ath­letic sup­porter, Den­nis en­joyed fol­low­ing all sports; high school, col­lege and pro­fes­sional and es­pe­cially his Pan­thers and Tarheels.

Zack­ery wel­comed Den­nis home, and Mandy and Andy look for­ward to fol­low­ing. Hawk has flown home.

Hawk’s fu­neral will be con­ducted at 2 p.m. Mon­day at Joyner’s Fu­neral Home, 4100 Raleigh Road Park­way, Wil­son. In­ter­ment will fol­low in Maple­wood Ceme­tery, Wil­son. The Rev. RayWells will of­fi­ci­ate. The fam­ily will re­ceive friends from 1 – 1:45 p.m. prior to the ser­vice.
