Polls closed at 7:30 p.m., and results came in too late for The News & Observer press deadline. Results, however, can be found at newsobserver.com and will be published Thursday in The News & Observer’s print edition.

Candidates in Eastern North Carolina’s 3rd district were Republican Greg Murphy, Democrat Allen Thomas, Libertarian Tim Harris and Constitution Party candidate Greg Holt.

Candidates for the hotly contested 9th district, which stretches from the Charlotte area to Fayetteville, were Republican Dan Bishop, Democrat Dan McCready, Libertarian Jeff Scott and Green Party candidate Allen Smith.
