Colonials take down Spartans
CASTLETON, Vt. — Seniors Aaron Samuel and Rashard Rodriguez scored 14 and 13 points, respectively, and the Western Connecticut State University men’s basketball team defeated Castleton University 67-53 at Glenbrook Gym on Saturday night.
The Colonials (9-4, 3-1 in the Little East Conference) have won five of their last six games.
The Spartans, in their first year in the LEC, fall to 3-9, 0-4 in league action.
Geary McLeod added 10 points and five rebounds for the Colonials. Samuel had a team-high eight rebounds.
Casey Belade and Eric Shaw each scored 10 points to lead Castleton.
WOMEN’S BASKETBALL
CASTLETON, Vt. — Sophomore forward Asiah Knight scored a team-high 16 points, but WestConn fell to Castleton University 67-60.
Knight connected on 7-of-10 attempts from the field, had five rebounds and recorded a game-high six steals to lead the Colonials (5-7, 0-LEC). Freshman guard Hannah Maghini added 12 points and Genesis Torres had 10 rebounds and five assists.
Castleton (10-3, 2-2) was led by Alexis Quenneville who had 27 points on 9-of-18 shooting.
