WestConn drops regular-season finale

DANBURY—The WestConn football team finished its regular season with a second straight loss Saturday as a few big plays for Westfield State led to a 27-13 triumph. The Colonials ended with an 8-2 record, good enough to claim second place in the MASCAC standings.
Austin Calamita had seven catches for 98 yards and two touchdowns for WestConn, which trailed 20-7 before a Calamita score made it 20-13 late in the third quarter. A 66-yard pass play from the visitors — who also had a 51-yard fumble return for a score and a 66-yard touchdown run — made it a two-touchdown lead with 11:49 left in the game. WestConn had a late drive end in the red zone.
Colonials quarterback David James completed 14 of 29 passes for 179 yards and two touchdowns along with one interception. He also carried 11 times for 47 yards.
