“Loving husband, father and grandfathe­r”

Mr. Ernest J. Bendana, 78, of Heritage Village in Southbury, formerly a 40-year resident of Brookfield, CT entered into eternal rest on Friday, November 30, 2018 at Danbury Hospital in the presence of his loving family. He was the beloved husband of Marilyn T. (Putz) Bendana.

Ernie was born in Manhattan, NY on January 17, 1940, son of the late Ernest and Lily (Zeck) Bendana. He graduated from DeSalle Academy High School in Manhattan and earned a Bachelor’s in Social Science Degree from Pace University. He worked as a travel manager for United Airlines over ten years and retired from Scholastic Books in Danbury. He moved from Manhattan to Brookfield in 1978 and to Southbury in 2018.

Ernie was past president and member of the Lions Club of Brookfield and was a volunteer for the American Red Cross Blood Drive annually. He was a former communican­t and lector at St. Joseph Church in Brookfield. Ernie was an avid sports enthusiast and fan of the New York Giants and the New York Mets.

Besides his wife Marilyn of 49 years, he leaves to cherish his memory two daughters; Karen Cerrato and her husband Lawrence of Milford, CT and Janine Weiss and her husband Walter of Middlebury, CT; a brother, Rene Bendana and his wife Debbie of Delaware; five grandchild­ren, Mackenzie, Mia, Sydney, Grace, and Riley and several nephews. He was predecease­d by a brother, Gilbert Bendana.

Arrangemen­ts: A funeral service with his cremains present will be celebrated on Tuesday, December 4, 2018 at 11 a.m. at Brookside Memorial, The Albini Family Funeral Home and Crematory, 200 Benson Road, Middlebury, CT. Inurnment of cremains will be private and at the convenienc­e of the family. Calling hours will be Tuesday morning from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service.
