Hotel concierge turned Danbury broker also licensed in New York
ARealtor since 2004, Julie Thompson also has a license in New York and is an associate broker. She has a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Hunter College of the City University of New York. Prior to real estate, she was a police officer and a hotel concierge.
Through extensive travel and experience in the hotel industry, she honed a skill for dealing with people from all different cultures. She also speaks several languages.
When working with buyers, Thompson, who serves greater Danbury and Southern Litchfield, Putnam and Northern Westchester counties, begins with a telephone interview to get an idea of what clients are looking for. Then they meet in the office to run through paperwork. If they are firsttime buyers or new to the state where they are buying, whether it’s Connecticut or New York, she walks them through the entire process.
While on the home hunt, she picks up on cues to determine what clients really want. When one person in a couple likes contemporary and the other prefers traditional, she helps them meet in the middle, perhaps by suggesting a house that looks traditional on the outside and contemporary inside.
“It’s about bridging the gap quite often,” she said.
With sellers, Thompson provides market insight into their neighborhood and town and does a comparable market analysis.
“We give expert advice on things that they can do to enhance the marketability of their home or get them top dollar,” she said.
She then makes sure they see all the data
about their listing, including how much traffic it gets online, how many reviews and the competition that comes on the market or goes under contract.
Her reward is the job itself. “Whether they’re sellers or buyers, it’s my job to hold their hand all the way and that’s very gratifying,” she said. “It’s gratifying to help people have a seamless experience.”
Thompson is married and has a teenage son. Her family enjoys traveling, gardening, hockey and tackling improvement projects around their house. Thompson volunteers at New Fairfield High School and does fundraising for The Sunshine Kids.
