Mary Caperton Bilecky

Mary Caperton (Rosenberge­r) Bilecky of New Fairfield, Connecticu­t, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on December 20, 2018. Mary was born on October 14, 1935, in Staunton, Virginia, to the late George Spitler and Mary Caperton Rosenberge­r. She was educated at Stuart Hall in Staunton and received her bachelor’s degree from Vassar College and a Master of Library Science from Southern Connecticu­t State College.

Mary was the librarian at Meeting House Hill School in New Fairfield for many years and also served for a time as the chairman of the New Fairfield Library Board of Directors. Mary loved reading, knitting, and working jigsaw and crossword puzzles.

Mary was preceded in death by her husband of 30 years, Adam Bilecky, Sr. and a daughter, Anastasia Carter Bilecky. She is survived by her children, Adam Bilecky, Jr. of Warren, Connecticu­t, Hugh Caperton Bilecky (Lynn) of Chappaqua, New York, and Mary Caperton Drimer (Adam) of Richmond, Virginia; and two grandchild­ren Jacob Braxton “Jack” Drimer and Mary Caperton “May May” Drimer, both of Richmond. She is also survived by two sisters, Margaret Holt Dunning of Fredericks­burg, Virginia, and Lisa Braxton Moore (Bill) of Staunton, Virginia, and their families.

Mary loved all creatures great and small. She enjoyed sitting on her back deck, feeding and watching the wildlife. She purchased her first horse at age 56 and rode until a few years ago. She leaves behind her beloved dachshund, Banner, and horse, Virginia Gentleman “Whiskey”.

A private graveside service will be held in the spring. Memorial contributi­ons can be made to the Catherine Violet Hubbard Animal Sanctuary, Newtown, CT, or Best Friends Animal Sanctuary, Kanab, UT.
