George Lewis Graef Jr., of Danbury, CT died peacefully on Tuesday, December 18, 2018. He was 91 years old. George had been in the care of the Regional Hospice and Palliative Care for several weeks before his passing, most recently at their care center in Danbury.

George is survived by his children, Paul of Portland, OR, David of Campbell Hall, NY; George III of Lincoln, NE, and Robert of Wilton, CT, along with ten grandchild­ren and three great-grandchild­ren. He was preceded in death by his wife of 51 years, Gloria (Gallucci) Graef and his parents, George and Julia (Cree) Graef of Danbury, CT.

George, Jr. was born on July 15, 1927 in Danbury, CT. He grew up in Danbury and attended Danbury High School. In 1945, George joined the Navy and served in the Philippine­s. He married Gloria Gallucci on June 9, 1951, and they settled in Bethel where they raised their four sons. George worked for Schlumberg­er in Ridgefield for 26 years where he made many lifelong friends. After his retirement from Schlumberg­er in 1983, George and Gloria moved to a farm in Oxford, NY where they lived until Gloria’s death in 2002. George loved raising his own fruits and vegetables, and especially enjoyed sharing his fresh picked blueberrie­s, corn, and tomatoes and monster zucchini with family and friends. George returned to Danbury in 2003, where he reconnecte­d with many of his old friends. He particular­ly enjoyed the monthly class lunches with his Danbury High School classmates and getting together with his Schlumberg­er friends.

There will be a celebratio­n of George’s life scheduled in the spring.
