Background in construction
ARealtor since 1988, Diane Haggas took a 10-year break from real estate from 1998 to 2008 while she was living in Litchfield County. When she moved back to Brookfield, she returned to the game.
With a three-year associate’s degree in science from the University of New Haven, she became a dental hygienist. She still works in the field for Dr. Michael Monsarrat, in Kent, and has been there since 1992, starting as a receptionist.
Skills she learned throughout her career have translated into real estate, including how to have a relationship with clients to better assist them.
Knowledge of the Fairfield County area she primarily serves sets her apart.
“I love to sell in this area,” she said. She also has a background in construction from working with her husband, who did small home improvement projects. Haggas ordered supplies and went on jobs with him, gaining an understanding of heating systems and how to tell a home’s condition.
She also has knowledge honed from remodeling three houses and building one from scratch.
When working with buyers, Haggas starts with a meeting in the office where she finds out their likes and dislikes and makes sure they get prequalified.
With sellers, she goes to the house and learns about recently completed updates. She talks to them about the location and what the house has to offer, like if it would be great for a big family or is a starter or
retirement home.
She also goes over the advantage of advertising and what she and her agency can do to help sell the property.
She asks about their hopes, dreams and goals in selling the property and offers staging ideas, market analyses and shows what the competition looks like to help determine a good price.
Haggas is married with two adult children and four grandchildren. She enjoys playing tennis and riding bikes and used to be member of the ladies auxiliary of her local fire department.
