Waterfront property expert

- Roberta Anderson

As a Realtor and broker, Roberta Anderson has an associate’s degree in retail from Green Mountain Junior College.

Prior to real estate, she worked as a customer service manager for Sealed Air Corporation, where she honed skills in dealing with the public. She relies on that ability to guide clients to make better decisions.

Anderson decided to take on real estate after Jack Cooper, owner of Candlewood Realty, who has since passed away, recommended it.

“‘You’d be a really great asset to the real estate community and you would do a really great job,’” Anderson said he told her. “So off I went.”

When working with buyers, Anderson, who primarily serves the Candlewood Lake area, sits down with them to find out their goals and the best situation for them.

“I try to see how these houses will fit their needs,” she said.

She takes the time to counsel them on what to expect when buying a home and makes sure they are prepared emotionally and financially for the process.

She brings them on town tours to help them get a feeling for each community and to check out local offerings, such as schools and services. When they find something they like, she put her negotiation skills to work.

With sellers, she goes to the home and sits down with them to establish a rapport and determine their motivations for selling, such as if they are planning to up- grade or downsize or need to relocate to a new area.

“I want them to give me the score of their home — tell me why they bought the house, what they love about the house and maybe why a buyer would want to buy their house,” she said.

She then completes a market analysis, provides pictures and begins marketing the home in newspapers and online.

Anderson has a Weimaraner and four cats. She is a gourmet cook, enjoys waterskiing, cruising Candlewood Lake in her boat and hiking. She volunteers with the Women’s Club, Candlewood Lake Authority and other local organizations.
