FIRSTLIGHT POWER CLOSES SOME RECREATIONAL FACILITIES

Some recreational facilites overseen by FirstLight Power will be closed because of the coronavirus.

The company is following the social distancing guidelines set by Connecticut and Massachusetts, where the places are located, said FirstLight spokesman Len Greene. In Connecticut, these closures will largely be seen along the Housatonic River.

Stevenson Dam’s downstream fishing access and picnic area are closed, as are the picnic and recreation areas, the Eagle View and assisted canoe portage services at Shepaug Dam. The assisted canoe portage service and scenic area is closed at Bulls Bridge in New Milford, along with the fishing parking lot and hiking, just like Rocky River.

“FirstLight’s first priority is to ensure the safety of our workforce and members of our community who use our trails, indoor public spaces, and restroom facilities,” Greene said. “Public use of some of our recreation facilities would require continued maintenance and would likely violate social distancing recommendations, unnecessarily exposing our workers and members of the public to COVID-19.”

All group events at the facilities are closed until further notice. “We regret any inconvenience this may cause, and we hope to reopen to the public soon,” he said.

The picinc and recreation area, hiking and the canoe selfportage are still open at Falls Village, along with fishing and the self-canoe portage in Scotland.
