The Quarter Horse is an American breed of horse that excels at sprinting short distances. Its name is derived from its ability to outrun other horse breeds in races of a quarter mile or less. Fairfield’s Quarter Horse Lane earned its name from being part of a larger piece of land where quarter horses once roamed. Set upon a bucolic two-acre parcel on a Greenfield Hill cul-de-sac, the five-bedroom Georgian colonial located at 173 Quarter Horse Lane still retains the tranquility of that period.

“The owners have enjoyed living on this quiet, serene street in this coveted location that is minutes to shopping, golf and tennis as well as the nearby local farms that offer summer vegetables and fresh strawberries,” said listing agent Charlotte Cotton.

The home is beautifully sited with lush landscaping and mature trees that encompass a stunning freeform Gunite pool and patio, creating an enchanting private setting. A poolside gazebo offers added space for entertaining, relaxing or dining al fresco.

Inside, the welcoming entry foyer sets an impressive tone with its gracious curved staircase. One side of the foyer opens into the formal dining room featuring inlaid hardwood floors that span throughout, wide moldings and raised panel trim. There is easy access into the gourmet cook’s kitchen, boasting Vermont marble island and counters, new stainless-steel appliances, and breakfast area overlooking the new deck with views of the gardens and pool. The kitchen opens into a spacious family room with vaulted ceilings and anchored by a striking, floor-to-ceiling fieldstone fireplace. Two sets of French doors open to a delightful sunroom which also has access to the deck, pool and patio.

On the opposite side of the home, in the formal living room, an arched alcove forms a distinguishing entryway to the home’s most striking feature, a breathtaking 800-square-foot oak paneled library, with fireplace, wet bar, coffered ceiling, beautiful arched built-ins, French doors to the pool and a designated office area.

“This is one of the owner’s most-loved spaces,” said Cotton. “The library is exquisite and can be a wonderful home office with multiple oak paneled file drawers surrounding the desk area.”

A convenient first floor en-suite bedroom completes the main level.

On the upper level, the master bedroom offers a private retreat overlooking the gardens and the pool and enjoys a fireplace, his and hers closets, and master bath with whirlpool tub, glass enclosed shower, skylight and separate water closet. There is a second en-suite bedroom, along with two additional bedrooms that share a jack-and-jill style bath.

There is ample space for recreation and leisure in the walk-out lower level that features the home’s fifth fireplace along with plenty of room for a home gym.
