Jean Lynn Bowman

-

Jean Lynn (Burridge) Bowman, wife of Peter K. Bowman, Sr. of New Milford, Connecticut, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, April 17, 2021. She was born in Beverly, Massachusetts, on April 24, 1946, to Joseph Philip Sr. and Alyce (Maynard) Burridge, of Ipswich, Massachusetts. Her childhood was spent in Ipswich, where she attended school and developed a lifelong love of the seashore. She graduated from Ipswich High School with the class of 1964 and in November of 1964, married fellow Ipswichite, Peter Bowman, beginning a marriage which would last until her passing.

Jean eventually settled in New Milford, where she and Peter lived and raised their family. As her children grew older, she began her professional career first as a receptionist for a local pediatrician’s office and later as an assistant in New Milford Hospital’s physical therapy department. In 1984, Jean joined New Milford Orthopedics, where she enjoyed many lasting friendships with both co-workers and patients, until her retirement in 2014.

Jean enjoyed traveling and visiting with family and friends, frequently returning to Ipswich, but always looking forward to ending the summer at Block Island. Her greatest joy was spending time with her six grandchildren, filling her home with their toys, artwork and photographs. She proudly attended school concerts, plays and graduations, and was an enthusiastic (and vocal) supporter at baseball and basketball games. At home, she could be found in her kitchen, with at least one grandchild by her side, baking cookies, cupcakes, or “whoopie pies”. No birthday was complete without a special dinner and dessert, which ranged from strawberry shortcake to grasshopper pie to the infamous “chocolate bomb”.

Jean is survived by her husband, Peter Bowman Sr. and her three sons and their families; Peter Bowman Jr., his wife Lesley and sons Ian and Zachary, of Washington Depot, CT; Matthew Scott Bowman, his wife Beccy, son Lucas and daughter Sarah, of Idaho Falls, Idaho and Mark Bowman, son Trevor and daughter Kaitlyn, of Cheshire, CT. Additionally, Jean is survived by her brothers, Joseph Philip Burridge of Pompano Beach, FL, Vincent Burridge of Ipswich, MA, and sisters Doreen Super, of Cape Coral, FL, Judi Burridge, of New Milford, CT, and Michele Gwinn of Venice, FL.

Jean will be sadly missed, but lovingly remembered by her family and friends.

A graveside service will be held at Center Cemetery, 6 Poplar St, New Milford, CT, at 1:00pm on Friday, April 30, 2021.

To ensure everyone’s safety, please observe applicable social distancing requirements and wear an appropriate face covering.

Arrangements by Lillis Funeral Home, 58 Bridge Street, New Milford, CT.
