KEEP AN EYE ON
Scouting Providence: UConn is 41-21 all-time against the Friars. The teams met once last season on Jan. 26, with UConn winning 87-50 in Storrs.
Providence could pose a threat around the rim as the team is No. 2 in the nation with 6.6. blocks per game. The Friars trail only South Carolina (8.3 blocks per game).
Enfield native Mary Baskerville was named to the 2021 All-Big East second team. The 2019 Big East Freshman of the Year led the team last year with averages of 12.7 points, 6.5 rebounds, 1.8 blocks and 1.4 steals per game. She led the Big East in blocks. The 6-foot-3 senior forward leads Providence with 4 blocks per game this season.
Added depth: UConn returned Christyn Williams and Azzi Fudd on Wednesday at DePaul. Williams returned after sitting out three games due to COVID-19, while Fudd played for the first time since Nov. 22 after being sidelined with a foot injury.
Both helped lead the Huskies to a win over the Blue Demons. Williams, who jumped back into the starting lineup, had 17 points and three steals. Fudd played 22 minutes and had 15 points with three steals.
The Huskies now have five available guards for the first time since November. It will be interesting to see how Fudd’s return is managed in minutes and how her outside shooting helps a team that’s recently struggled from behind the arc.
