Ramon N. Kranwinkel, MD, 86, of Ridgefield, a retired pathologis­t and hematopath­ologist of the Danbury Hospital died on Tuesday, February 8, 2022.

Dr. Kranwinkel was born on November 10, 1935, in the Dominican Republic to the late Ernesto and Rosa (Zaiter) Kranwinkel. He attended schools in the Dominican Republic and graduated from the University of Santo Domingo School of Medicine in 1960 and completed his residency in Pathology at Danbury Hospital in 1966. He was then named Director of the Pathology Residency Program and Chief of Blood Bank at Danbury Hospital in 1971 and retired in 2012 after 40 years of service.

During that period of time, Dr. Kranwinkel also served (from 1990 to 2012) as Chairman of the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at Danbury Hospital. He also became President of the Danbury Office of Physician Services from 1998 to 2002.

He served as an Assistant Clinical Professor of Pathology at Yale School of Medicine from 1987 to 1995. He was a member of numerous profession­al societies and had written more than 50 publicatio­ns on Pathology and Laboratory Medicine.

Dr. Kranwinkel was an avid opera lover, opera singer, and world traveler.

He is survived by a daughter, Sonya (‘Nityasree”) Kranwinkel of Kollam, India, his siblings, Lillian Robiou, Azar Kranwinkel, Francisco Kranwinkel and Fatima del Rosario Kranwinkel all of Santo Domingo, DR, and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Dr. Kranwinkel was predecease­d by a brother Ernesto Kranwinkel.

A Memorial Service will be arranged at a later date.
