Margaret “Peggy” Billings

-

Margaret (Peggy) Green Billings passed away peacefully at Bethel Healthcare on February 20, 2022. She was the loving wife of the late Paul Billings. Where do you begin to write an obituary about a woman filled with such grace, kindness, and love?

Peg was born in Danbury, CT on July 17, 1931, the daughter of the late Estelle and Daniel Green. She was a graduate of Danbury High School, class of 1949. She was a teacher’s aide in Danbury for over 35 years, retiring from Stadley Rough School. She loved and took much pride innurturing children and guiding them in learning how to read.

Peg was caring and deeply loved people. In her lifetime, we estimate that she sent thousands of cards and notes to people. We hope that Hallmark doesn’t go out of business!

Peg had such grace and style, the classiest dresser in Danbury with matching shoes, scarves, and jewelry right up to her last days. Her outside beauty wasn’t surpassed by her inside beauty.

Peg had a deep faith and was a devout Catholic. Even when she had difficulty walking, her one goal was to be able to drive to church. Truly an angel on earth. She was an inspiration and loving support to everyone she met. She thought she was just the “Peg O’ [Paul’s] Heart” but in reality she was the Peg o’ of all of our hearts. She will be greatly missed.

“Let us rejoice and be glad” that she was in all of our lives.

The family wishes to thank Jen and Vesta, Peg’s devoted caregivers.

Peg is survived by daughter, Linda Burrell (Hugh) of Brookfield; son, Paul Billings (June) of Danbury; and daughter, Joanne Loftus (Michael) of South Carolina. Her grandchildren: Meaghan Loftus, Matthew Loftus (Kristina), Deirdre Loftus (Todd Dowling), and Elizabeth Billings. She was also blessed with two great-grandchildren: Ashton and Mary. Her children and grandchildren were the joy of her life.

She is also survived by sisters-in-law: Rosalie Green and Sylvia Billings; her brothers-in-law: Donald Billings and Reginald Zurinskas, and her cousin, Thomas Green (Mary). In addition, she is survived by numerous beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, and their children.

She was predeceased by her sisters: Nancy Sheridan and Jane Zurinskas; her brothers: Daniel and Jack Green; and her cousin, Joan Green Maher.

A Celebration of Peg’s Life will be planned for the Spring.

Donations in Peg’s name may be made to St. Gregory the Great Church, 85 Great Plain Rd., Danbury, CT 06811 or to Anne’s Place, 80 Saw Mill Rd., Danbury, CT 06810.

Please consider doing an act of kindness in honor of Peg’s kind heart.
