Richard M. Lucente Sr. passed away on April 19, 2022 at Danbury Hospital after a brief illness.

Richard was born in Port Chester, New York on March 22, 1930 to the late Domenic and Norma (Tower) Lucente. He worked for 35 years as an Area Manager, Sales Representa­tive and Arborist at Davey Tree Expert Company.

Many of Richard’s finest memories are of his days in the United States Navy serving on the U.S.S Basilone from 1947-1951. He recalled his time in Key West with particular fondness. In addition, Richard loved the part of his childhood when he lived on a farm in Winthrop, NY (upstate) with his mother’s family. This included his grandfathe­r, grandmothe­r and many cousins. Anyone who knew him was charmed by endless stories of these two periods in his life.

Richard was a self-taught historian who could have matched wits with any teacher of history. He was known to be a strong-willed, courageous, and hard working.

Richard was a communican­t of St. Francis Church of New Milford and a member of the U.S.S Basilone Society and Tin Can Sailors. He enjoyed his navy reunions, where in his later years,he visited many U.S. cities, always accompanie­d by his loving wife, Carol.

He is survived by a son, Richard M. Lucente Jr. of Waterbury, Two daughters, Norma (Fred) Fusci of Norwalk and Susan ( James) Lynch of New Milford, grandchild­ren, Jen, Kim, Erin, Kathryn and one great grandchild, Brooklyn. Calling hours will be held on Monday April 25,2022 from 5-7pm at the Lillis Funeral Home, 58 Bridge Street New Milford, CT. A graveside service will be held on Tuesday at 10 am in the St. Francis Cemetery, New Milford.
